49ers fantasy football pick-ups Mike McGlinchey Jersey , drops for Week 5 There isn’t much to note as far as fantasy pick-ups for Week 5. With us figuring out who C.J. Beathard’s favorite target outside of George Kittle is, there’s no sure things on the San Francisco 49ers. We’ll jump into some pickups in the NFL at large, but not this week. There are still some considerations and starts to make in anticipation of the matchup against a bad Arizona Cardinals squad. Let’s take a look. As always, percentage owned numbers are based on Yahoo! leagues.Pick-ups49ers D/STWeek 4 stats: 29 PA, one interception, one touchdownMany of you have asked if we would even consider starting the 49ers D/ST against a bad, BAD Arizona Cardinals team. Our answer is: It depends. Now, before we go further, that’s not a good answer for a fantasy pick-up. If your league is scored using only points allowed by the D/ST, and you are hurting for a streaming defense Womens Steve Young Jersey , be it waiver positioning, a drought of teams, or a deep league, then maybe--and we say this with little confidence--maybe the 49er D/ST is an option this week. If your league awards points for sacks and interceptions (or in mine where you get a lot of points for a defense performing well), then stay far, far away from this. The 49ers will not generate enough of anything to be a game-changer. There are much worse defenses to pick up this week, and if you are desperate, the 49ers can be plugged in to hold down the fort in a crucial bye. But a lot of things need to be going against you to even consider this (like every team having two D/ST’s on their roster which is questionable to say the least). Beathard is chucking the ball to him. None of Beathard’s pass-catchers are standing out and we all know Garrett Celek isn’t going to do anything with his opportunities besides bat away potential touchdown passes. The 49ers get the Arizona Cardinals this week. As I’ve said, a bad Cardinals team. Slot Kittle in as your tight end this week if you haven’t already. And if you’re one of those lucky ones who have both Kittle and say Travis Kelce/Rob Gronkowski/Zach Ertz, put Kittle in as your flex (if allowed). Yes, he’s going to go off that much. We said last week Kittle was in must-start status and he didn’t disappoint. The Cardinals are much, much worse than the Chargers. Start with confidence. The only time Kittle should be benched is if your league rules do not allow you to flex him when having one of the above three tight ends.Pick up or don’t pick up: 88 percent? The 49ers wide receivers are dealing with injuries and C.J. Beathard is trying to find a go-to pass catcher. For now, that’s Kittle, but defenses are going to figure that part out and he’ll have to go to the wide receivers. ESPN reported that deal would be worth $10 million.The 49ers also agreed to bring back defensive back Jimmie Ward on a one-year contract worth up to $5 million, a person familiar with the deal said on condition of anonymity because the signing hadn’t been announced.San Francisco also announced a four-year deal the team had agreed to earlier in the week with linebacker Kwon Alexander worth $54 million.The Chiefs had placed the franchise tag on Ford after he had a career-high 13 sacks last season and led the NFL with seven forced fumbles. But they had questions about how he’d fit in new coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense and decided to trade him instead of paying him $15.4 million for this season.Ford was picked in the first round by Kansas City in 2014 but went through some growing pains as he adapted to life in the NFL and has an injury history that is cause for concern. He had 17 1/2 sacks his first four seasons and was limited to just six games in 2017 because of a back injury.But he emerged as a star this past season as a key part of a defense that helped Kansas City make it to the AFC championship game. But his offside penalty late in that game against New England negated an interception that could have sealed a victory. The Patriots scored a TD on that drive and won the game in overtime.Ford led all edge rushers with 84 total quarterback pressures last season, according to Pro Football Focus, to go with the sacks and forced fumbles and is exactly the kind of playmaker the 49ers lacked on defense this past season.San Francisco set an NFL record for futility with just seven takeaways, including a record-low two interceptions, as a lack of an edge rusher played a big role in a 4-12 season.“You have to have a guy who can close out games Womens Joshua Garnett Jersey , close out halves,” general manager John Lynch said at the combine when talking about the need for better pass rushers. “When you have them, they can be a difference-maker.”The 49ers haven’t had an edge rusher reach double-digits in sacks since Aldon Smith had 19 1/2 in 2012 and have the fifth-fewest overall sacks in the NFL the past six seasons. San Francisco also has Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert as reserves.Ward was a first-round pick by San Francisco in 2014 but has played only 51 games over five seasons because of various injuries. He has experience playing both cornerback and safety and offers versatility for San Francisco.
