I have never worked as a magazine editor, but I was involved in the process of its creation. I helped format the texts and photos for the magazine and place them correctly in the mockup for printing. I found a lot of useful information and tools for this here https://www.ls.graphics/free-mockups/magazine-mockup . I like that now you can easily use such free templates and save a lot of time on doing routine work.
