The Mets have made no secret over their frustrations about the high number of hit-by-pitches they've dealt with this season. But on Wednesday, it Bobby Evans Jersey was a Cardinal nearly getting beaned that set off a brawl between the two sides.
With the Cardinals leading the Mets 10-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning in St. Louis, Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado had a pitch sail high and tight from New York reliever Yoan Lopez, to which he took exception. Arenado yelled out at Lopez, and the dugouts began to chime in before the benches cleared.
What happened next was an ugly scene with plenty of wrestling and shoving. During the scrum, Cardinals first base coach Stubby Clapp could be seen taking down Mets first baseman Pete Alonso. Arenado and Clapp were both ejected from the game.

The previous inning, by St. Louis' Genesis Cabrera, and Davis had to leave the game. The Tyler Higbee Jersey incident came a day after the Mets had been hit three times and Cardinals players twice.
After the game, Arenado explained that he thought there was a chance he was going to be stepping up to the plate with a chance of retaliation by the Mets coming after Davis was injured and had to leave the game, but he said the problem was where the pitch was thrown. He said he would have preferred for Lopez to "just go lower."
I get it. I get what's going on in this series. It's part of the game, but little high," Arenado said. "I don't know how close it was. It felt high."
It just felt close. It was just high. I'm not saying he's trying to throw it up there, it was just the ball got away, but that's the problem with that stuff.

Lopez, speaking through a translator, said that Arenado had told him to throw the ball, but not at him, .
"That's baseball and that's going to happen in the game," Lopez said. "But from what I understood, I just knew that he was uncomfortable from that pitch and he got upset. And at that point, I was happy with that because I knew that I got him John Kelly Jersey out of his comfort zone and there they took him out of the game because of it."
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol was supportive of his player, saying that when a pitch is high and jeopardize s someone's career and life, yeah I take exception to that." He also said he did not have an i sue with Clapp tackling Alonso, saying that he was "making sure that guy doesn't come after one of ours."
"I don't think anyone in the big leagues appreciates getting thrown up top," Marmol said. "Nolan has every right to react the way he did and go after him and we'll protect that."

Bryce Hager Jersey Mets manager Buck Showalter explained that during Tuesday's game, Alonso was hit in the head with a pitch, but went straight to first base.
"I'll let them handle their players. I know our player got hit in the head and went to first base."
After being hit by the pitch, Alonso stared down Kodi Whitley, the St. Louis pitcher, and the New York dugout began to empty before an umpire calmed down the situation.

Being hit by pitches has become something of a theme for the Mets to start the 2022 season. New York's batters have been hit 19 times to begin the season, while no other team has been hit more than 11 times. After Tuesday's game, said changing baseballs contributed to the wildne s of pitches to begin the year.
The baseballs are all different, Ba sitt. The first inning, theyre decent. The third inning, theyre bad. Sam Shields Jersey The fourth inning, theyre OK. The fifth inning, theyre bad. Then we have different climates. Everything is different. Theres no common ground with the balls. Theres nothing the same, outing to outing. Theyre bad.
Despite all the hit-by-pitches, Showalter had said before the game that he felt there shouldn't be any retaliation, .
"There's a lot of emotions flying around," Showalter said, per Healey. "Stop, think this Robert Quinn Jersey through. There's a lot of ways to show your toughne s other than reciprocating hitting somebody else in the head. Then all of a sudden somebody's career is over and somebody's laying there with blood coming out of their ears. How do you really feel? Was it worth it? No, it was kind of stupid. But there's a lot of frustration."
