On Tuesday, the Gulf Coast League announced the hiring of Jen Pawol, the first female umpire in MiLB since 2007. Pawol becomes the first female umpire in the GCL since 1977-78 Jeurys Familia Jersey , when Pam Postemaofficiatedminor league games.

Pawolattended the 2016 Minor League Baseball Umpire Training Academy, and was selected for the MiLB Advanced Course, where top nominees from The Umpire Academy are selected for further training. Her results in the Advanced Course ended up with receiving her a signment to the Nolan Ryan Jersey GCL.
Pawol is no stranger to the sport. She was a catcher atHofstraandhas played for the USA Baseball Women's National Team. Shebegan her umpiring career in Division I softball Yoenis Cespedes Jersey in 2006, and alsohad an a signmentin the Big Ten Conference during the 2013-15 seasons.
"Beginning my career as a profe sional baseball umpire this week is a privilege that goes beyond words," said Pawol.
