The road to the College World Series title opened up at Omaha'sTD Ameritrade Parkwith a surprising twist as Arkansas lost to Virginia and Florida smothered Miami (Fla.) from the beginning.

Virginia was the more aggre sive team in the CWS opener against Arkansas, posting 10 hits and stealing five bases on eight attempts.
Infielder Daniel Pinero was the star for the Cavaliers, stealing three bases on three attempts, recording three hits and scoring two runs. He is the first player to steal three Isaiah Spiller Jerseys bases in a CWS game sinceArizona's Brad Boyer in 2004,also in a game against Arkansas. However, center fielderAndrewBenintendi provided a bright spot for the Razorbacks: He leads the country in home runs with 20after his solo shot in Sa ... ay's game.Benintendi, the SEC player of the year, became the first Division I player with 20 homers and 20 stolen bases in a single season since 2009.
Arkansascame close to leading Virginia in the bottom of the fifth, tying the Cavaliers 3-3 on Benintendi's solo homer.However, aKenny Towns double in the eighthgave the Cavaliersa lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Florida 15, Miami 3
Miami didn't even come close to matching Florida's tenacity. The Gators' fourth inning saw 11 runs scored, tying theCWS Justin Jackson Jerseys record for runs in an inning.
Dalton Guthrie led all players with three hits, while PeterAlonso and Josh Tobias each recorded three RBIs for the Gators. Pitcher Logan Shore earned the win for Florida, while Miami's Andrew Suarez took the lo s.
