We are halfway through January, and two of the three top free-agent pitchers have yet to decide what uniform theyll be wearing for the 2015 season.
This, of course, you know. But what Houston Texans Women Jersey about the yet-to-sign free agents not named Max Scherzer or James Shields? Lets take a look at the 10 best remaining free agents.
1. SP Max Scherzer
By this point, you know the basics on the Quest for Scherzer. The right-handed strikeout wizard is repd by superagent Scott Boras, and is reportedly seeking a contract north of $200 million. Will he take le s than that to return to the city where he became a star (Detroit) or will he take le s than that to return to his hometown team (St. Louis)? Or will the Yankees decide to pony up the nece sary money because they finally realize their projected 2015 rotation is a big ol pot of uncertainty? Or will the fabled mystery team swoop in with bags of cash and steal him away?Scherzer seems to have zero urgency at this point.
2. SP James Shields
Even though he wasnt great in the postseason, his Royals run into Game 7 of the World Series didnt hurt his bargaining power much. Everyone seems to agree that hell eventually receive a deal in the $100-million range (his numbers dont match Scherzers and hes a couple years older) from somebody. Will it be the Diamondbacks, who entered the Shields rumor fray this week? How about the Red Sox, Yankees, Marlins, Giants or Rangers? His ace days are behind him (or will soon be), but he shows the consistency that would make him a valuable overpaid No. 3 guy on the right staff.
3. CF Colby Rasmus
On the field, Rasmus has done very little to prove he Derek Stingley Jr. Jerseys s worth a multiyear deal. But, man, those flashes of greatne s he shows can be intoxicating. Hes averaged 21 homers for the Blue Jays the past three seasons, but his on-base percentage has been all over the place: .289, .338 and .287. Chances are hell have to sign somewhere (Baltimore?) and try and reestablish his value in the hopes of landing a bigger deal next offseason (when hell still only be 29). But it only takes one GM to buy into the Rasmus pull and he could land a two- Deshaun Watson Jerseys or three-year deal this offseason.
4. OF Nori Aoki
Here are Aokis batting averages in his three MLB seasons: .288, .286, .285. So, yes, teams know what theyre getting. Aoki, who has good speed and is a decent defensive outfielder, was a huge part of Kansas Citys stunning run to the World Series last season. Hes been primarily a right-fielder, but he can play left and center, too. Even though he brings enough value to be a starter and is obviously looking to land that type of job first, he would be an outstanding five-game-a-week fourth outfielder for a contender. Hes been most often connected to the Orioles.
5. OF Ichiro Suzuki
His days of being an everyday guy are long gone, but seriously, if a team needed a contact-first guy to be able Cedric Ogbuehi Jerseys to bring off the bench to pinch-hit in late-game situations, it could do a lot worse than Ichiro. And he could still play multiple days in a row when needed (just not 162 like he used to do for the Mariners). Hes been heavily connected to the Marlins, with other reported interest by the Orioles and Blue Jays.
6. SP Ryan Vogelsong
It will seem odd for Vogelsong to don a uniform without Giants acro s the front, but that seems likely for the 2015 season. During San Franciscos runs to the 2012 and 2014 World Series titles, Vogelsong compiled a 2.92 ERA in eight postseason games (seven starts). Vogelsong, 37, had a 4.00 ERA in 32 starts for the Giants in 2014. Hes been connected to the Rockies most recently.
7. 2B Rickie Weeks
Weeks hit 29 home runs in 2010 and was an All-Star in 2011, and hes still only 32 years old, but he lost his job at second base in Milwaukee last season and didnt show any interest in adding to his positional repertoire. That said, he did hit .274/.357/.452 and could be a valuable bat off the bench in the right situation. Especially if he decides to work on learning first base and/or a corner outfield spot.
8. SP Chris Young
The Sporting News AL comeback player of the year for the Mariners in 2014, Young is no spring chicken (hell be 36 in late May) but he delivered 29 starts for Seattle and produced a 3.65 ERA in 165 innings. Hes had all sorts of injury i sues in his career, but he showed in 2014 that he can still be valuable Houston Texans Hoodies Sweatshirts , and would slot into most rotations very nicely in the No. 4 spot (and shouldnt cost Laremy Tunsil Jerseys an extreme amount).
9. OF Jonny Gomes
Hey, if nothing else, Gomes seems to be baseballs best good-luck charm, which makes him worth a look. He made his postseason debut with Cincinnati in 2010, then played in October with the As in 2012, the Red Sox in 2013 and again with Oakland in 2014. Maybe the Cubs should sign him to help boost the Back to the Future thing. Actually, though, he would be a good veteran presence and power bat off the bench for that club, and he played for new Cubs manager Joe Maddon when both were with Tampa Bay.
10. Alexi Ogando
There is plenty of uncertainty with Ogando, who has dealt with all kinds of injuries the past few seasons. But hes reportedly been throwing 94 mph this offseason, and he has the potential to once again be a valuable arm out of the bullpen (or in the rotation, depending on where he decides to sign). Hes been linked to the Red Sox and Dodgers.
